Salford Quays Spring Engagement Shoot
I frequently work all over the North West, but from my base at Exchange Quay near Salford Quays there’s a wealth of gorgeous wedding venues and engagement shoot locations practically on my doorstep, so I decided to run a Facebook competition for three lucky couple to win an engagement shoot in Salford Quays so that not only would the couples get some gorgeous photos, but I could add some photos from this location to my portfolio. I prefer to work with real couples rather than models, as I feel the photos will be realistic representation of a couple shoot rather than a staged one.
The plan was to do the shoots at different times of day, so a sundown one, then a shoot in the morning, and then again at sunset / night time when Salford Quays was all lit up.
Billie-Jean and Simon were the first couple to win one of the shoots. We planned to meet in Salford Quays at sundown, when the sun was low enough in the sky for some gorgeous soft afternoon light which at this time of year was around 7pm. I’ve shot in this area at different times of day and it can look quite different depending on the light, check out some of my other couple portraits and weddings over at my Lowry Theatre hub page here.
We started off at the tree lined quayside path next to the Lowry outlet, where Manchester ship canal meets Central Bay. From here we worked our way back towards Salford, past the water sports centre and over towards Erie Basin. I got some photos of Billie-Jean and Simon on Detroit Bridge, this is an ex railway bridge that was originally over the Manchester ship canal. Detroit Bridge was originally built in 1895 as a single track railway bridge but replaced in 1942 with a twin track bridge. Read more here. It’s great to see an old bridge like this being re-utilised!
We continued on towards the Lowry Theatre on the shoot, which is where we finished off with some dramatic shots of Billie-Jean and Simon in front of this iconic building. Billie-Jean and Simon will receive 100 edited high resolution photos both on USB and via digital download, here’s a few of the highlights…
