Kate & Tom were getting married at the beautiful St Josephs church in Sale, and were having an informal reception at home. The plan was to have a marquee in the garden decorated with fairy lights & lots of food & drink.
All the plans had been coming together nicely, when storm Desmond struck the week before bringing thunder & lightning & leaving the house without power. Emergency generators were sourced just 2 days before the wedding, and the party carried on. I spoke to Kate a few of days before the wedding & she explained about the power cut, she was so calm considering at that point they had not found a generator yet, I think I would have been in pieces!
On the wedding day, it was gale force winds and sideways rain, but we worked round the weather and the church and Kate’s family home were both lovely locations for group photos.
If you’re thinking of having your wedding reception at home, Kate has a few tips to share.
Manchester wedding at home | Tips
- Protect wooden floors from high heels with cord carpet
- Speak to neighbours in advance
- Parking. Is there enough space in your street? Communicate with guests so they know where to park and encourage guests to car share
- Lots of food
- Even more drink!
- Lots of toilet roll!
Kate used fairy lights in the marquee and I thought these looked ace! There were moments when storm Desmond seemed to be doing it’s best to blow the marquee away, but some well placed barrels & heater helped keep everything in place.
This was a really lovely wedding to cover, thanks again Kate & Tom! It was awesome to work with you both!
